About a month ago we goet an invite in the mail for Blank Park Zoo's Dreamnight--a special night out for families of children with special needs. This special event was held last night and it included a free trip to the zoo, children's characters (super heroes, Cat in the Hat, etc), activities and a free dinner.
I was absolutely blown away at how cool this event was. As a mother of a child who has gone through countless appointments with specialists and a fair amount of poking and prodding, it was nice to have a night to put that all behind us, get out and have a great time. It was incredible to see these kids who have gone through so much have a night dedicated just to them. The smiles were endless and laughter could be heard at every turn and live children's music filled the air.
This was Audrey's first trip to the zoo, and it was definitely memorable. Her favorite animal was the llama. She stared him down as he stood next to the fence and she tracked his every movement as he walked way. Coming in a close second was the Cat in the Hat. The dinner (hot dog, chips and cookie) was delicious and the free stuffed animal tiger as her free souvenir was the cherry on top.
I was so touched that people donated to this cause for families like us. The joy that this event brought not only to us, but to all the other families who attended brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Variety Children's Charities, U of I Children's Hospital, Blank Children's Hospital and Child Serve and others who generously donated for making an evening to remember. We are so appreciative!
Here are some pictures from our fun night out!
