About me

Hi!

I'm Amanda. I'm madly in love with my husband, Will, and my daughter, Audrey, is my world.  We call Iowa home and purchased our first place, a townhome, last fall.  I'm an interior designer, shopper, occasional crafter & Starbucks lover.  I'm passionate about being the best mother and wife I can be and I live by the philosophy that a smile can change the world.

Between my full-time interior design career and making our house a home, I'm spending time with my family.   Over the past 7 months, my daughter  has been diagnosed with Persistent Fetal Vasculature and Microcephaly.  Educating others about her obscure disorder and showing the world that she has a 'different-ability' and not a disability, has become a passion of mine as it weighs heavy on my heart.  Our daughter proves she's a miracle on a daily basis by doing things doctors said she wouldn't be capable of.  She inspires me to be a better person and to be the best mom I can be.  Her spirit is unbreakable.

I know there are countless other families out there who are going through some of the same things we are--what seem like never ending appointments with specialists, numerous tests, the hardship of not-so-great news and the overwhelming joy when good news finally comes your way.  I remember searching for blogs of parents whose children have the same diagnosis only to come up short which only made me feel more alone in this journey.  My hope is to reach others out there to let them know that  while life may be a little different than most, that doesn't make it any less beautiful or special.  Quite the contrary, actually.

I believe Audrey Hepburn said it best:

"Pick the day. Enjoy it - to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come... The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present - and I don't want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future."
